Violence: A Definition
"Violence is broadly defined as the use of physical force with the intent to inflict injury or death upon oneself or another. However, it can also include non-physical harm as well (i.e. threats or intimidation)."
Violence encompasses:
• Assault: violence actions resulting in injury
• Aggravated assault: specific criminal violations
• Sexual assault: any unwanted sexual activity forced on one person by another (including rape, attempted rape, sodomy, penetration by and inanimate object, touching or fondling)
• Intimate partner violence: physical violence, emotional or psychological abuse, threats or intimidation, sexual assault, forced isolation, restriction of access to money/resources.
• Child abuse: physical, psychological, emotional or sexual abuse, sexual exploitation, and neglect.
