The GW Lifesavers Program is an integral component of the The George Washington University Department of Emergency Medicine. As such, the resources of the Board Certified Emergency Medicine Faculty are available to provide the various functions of medical oversight. As a GW Lifesavers client, a physician will be assigned as your organizations medical director. The medical director will review protocols and AED usage, as well as provide recommendations regarding program status and improvement. Our GW Lifesavers program manager will work with your organizational liaison to answer all your questions and concerns.
Our AED Program manager will review current site practices and any existing safety protocols and conduct a site survey that identifies any unique qualities about the site, such as building shape, etc. to determine strategic AED placement locations to optimize response. Then, the program manager will work with you & your organization to develop a protocol that addresses:
A prescription (FDA Requirement) is then written to the site for an AED. We have established a form prescription that we use for all sites.
Medical directors assist with initial protocol development, quality assurance, and assurance of compliance. After any AED use, the medical director is consulted to perform a case review of the event and make any recommendations for future practice.
