Medical Escort Program

Medical Escort Services

The Medical Faculty Associates (MFA), as an innovative health care industry leader, provides a variety of non-traditional medical programs geared at providing a full range of medical services. The GW Medical Escort Program is a thriving example of providing innovative medical care and services outside of the traditional walls of a hospital.

Travel is a regular occurrence in todays world. People travel for work, for vacation, for educational opportunities. Unfortunately, sickness and injury continue to occur globally, regardless of location. International medical care can be variable at best.

After the transition from traveler to patient, the need frequently arises to transfer and transport patients either in between medical facilities, or more frequently, from medical facility to a home geographic location. Dependant on medical condition and diagnosis, there are populations of patients that benefit from enroute medical care. It is this population of individuals that the GW Medical Escort Program services.

Our program provides the full spectrum of medical professionals, including physical therapists to aid in patient movement and care, certified paramedics, critical care nurses and physicians. Our physicians consult with the sending physician to jointly determine the most appropriate level of care provider required on a case-by-case basis. Our staff provides supportive medical care throughout the transport, with the capability to monitor each patients specific clinical condition using a variety of state-of-the-art monitoring equipment. As clinically appropriate, our escorts maintain credentials in Advanced Cardiac Life Support, in addition to variety of specialty certifications and licenses, and travel with cardiac monitors capable of defibrillation and external cardiac pacing, ventilators and an array of transport medications capable of dealing with any emergency.

Our medical escorts are hand picked through previous clinical experiences, and exceed the required three year minimum in their respective levels of practice. Initial and ongoing continuing education revolves around flight physiology as the basis for understanding and treating potential exacerbations of medical conditions during transport. Medical Direction is available 24/7, allowing immediate consultation on extremely complex cases.
