Research

The Department of Emergency Medicine has a very active research program, covering all aspects of clinical emergency medical care.  Nearly all of the clinical faculty are active participants in research projects which include clinical, administrative and laboratory research.
 
The Department has a full time research nurse, and clinical studies are supported by academic research associates who provide research coverage in the ED from 8am-midnight throughout the week.
 
Some of our current projects are listed below:
 

  • Use of ultrasound to guide peripheral intravenous insertion (Boniface)
  • Rates of gang membership among ED patients (Mckay)
  • ProCESS - Protocolized Care for Early Septic Shock -a multi-center trial funded by the National Institutes of Health grant (May)
