The GW Department of Emergency Medicine provides emergency patient care to three hospitals, educates the next generation of health professionals and provides a wide range of innovative emergency medicine consulting services.

The Department of Emergency Medicine (DEM) of The George Washington University is actively involved in a wide range of Emergency Medicine-related clinical, educational, research, and consulting programs. In support of our medical student, resident, and fellowship education programs and clinical research programs, the DEM staffs the ED’s of three hospitals including one hospital-based Hyperbarics / Wound Care program. The DEM also offers a wide range of Emergency Medicine consulting activities including: medical support for the travel assistance and commercial shipping industries, staffing solutions for remote clinics, telemedicine-related services, community-oriented emergency care programs.

Our mission is to provide excellent emergency patient care, train the next generation of health professionals, create new knowledge in the fields of Emergency Medicine and Emergency Management, and continually innovate.

Communications Specialist Position

The Department of Emergency Medicine,  Innovative Practice section is seeking Communications Specialist to serves as emergency operators in our Worldwide Emergency Communications Center.  Responsibilities will include the following:  Coordinate communication between remotely based clients and medical staff to determine clinical course of care,   accurately input patient medical information from phone consult into database/electronic medical record system, and represents The George Washington University (GWU) Medical Faculty Associates (MFA) to clients accessing the WECC, providing customers with prompt, courteous and efficient service..  This position is pivotal to the success to the daily operations. http://www.gwemed.edu/

BLS, ACLS, and PALS Instructors

The Department of Emergency Medicine Training Center is seeking experienced & motivated American Heart Association Instructors. Our center trains several thousand people each year in CPR, ACLS, and PALS locally and internationally. Teaching opportunities are typically on weekends & instructors are expected to teach at least four courses annually for our center. Interested instructors should email or fax their credentials, certifications, and a resume to the training center. We will contact instructors to schedule an orientation and brief interview. Instructors will be monitored teaching prior to being contracted for courses. Academic Emergency Medicine Physician Positions

The Department of Emergency Medicine of The George Washington University is seeking physicians for our academic practice. Physicians are employed by the Medical Faculty Associates, an independent non-profit academic practice group affiliated with The George Washington University. The medical group provides staffing for the Emergency Units of George Washington University Hospital, Prince George's Hospital Center and the National Naval Medical Center, and manages a number of consulting practices. Fellowship Opportunities

The Department of Emergency Medicine at The George Washington University is inviting applications for Fellowship positions beginning in the Summer of 2008. The Department offers Fellows a common interdisciplinary curriculum focusing on research methodologies and grant writing. Fellows receive an academic appointment at George Washington University School of Medicine and work clinically at a site staffed by the Department. Before entering the Fellowship, an applicant must have completed an accredited residency training program in Emergency Medicine and be eligible for state licensure.
