The GW Department of Emergency Medicine provides emergency patient care to three hospitals, educates the next generation of health professionals and provides a wide range of innovative emergency medicine consulting services.

The Department of Emergency Medicine (DEM) of The George Washington University is actively involved in a wide range of Emergency Medicine-related clinical, educational, research, and consulting programs. In support of our medical student, resident, and fellowship education programs and clinical research programs, the DEM staffs the ED’s of three hospitals including one hospital-based Hyperbarics / Wound Care program. The DEM also offers a wide range of Emergency Medicine consulting activities including: medical support for the travel assistance and commercial shipping industries, staffing solutions for remote clinics, telemedicine-related services, community-oriented emergency care programs.

Our mission is to provide excellent emergency patient care, train the next generation of health professionals, create new knowledge in the fields of Emergency Medicine and Emergency Management, and continually innovate.

The Emergency Medicine Residency Program at the George Washington University is sponsored by the George Washington University Medical Center in collaboration with the INOVA Fairfax Hospital Center. About International Physician Assistant Development (IPAD)

The International Physician Assistant Development (IPAD) program, within the George Washington University Medical Faculty Associates Department of Emergency Medicine, is dedicated to the global development and advancement of the Physician Assistant profession. IPAD provides consultative services and support to governmental, military and private institutions worldwide. We work closely with these organizations to develop a full range of specifically designed medical training programs and continuing medical education (CME) opportunities for physician assistants, physicians, nurses and all other healthcare practitioners in the US and abroad. Members of IPAD have been involved in medical education programs throughout the United States and around the world.

The Department of Emergency Medicine is currently seeking NCCPA-certified physician assistants for full-time core faculty positions in the newly established physician assistant program at The Prince Sultan Military College of Health Sciences (PSMCHS) in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Program Director- The Program Director will provide academic and administrative direction for all aspects of the PSMCHS program as well as curriculum development and teaching. About The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Assistant Physician Program

The George Washington University Medical Faculty Associates Department of Emergency Medicine is proud to announce a collaborative effort with the Prince Sultan Military College of Health Sciences in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to develop the first Assistant Physician (Physician Assistant) program in the Middle East.

The Assistant Physician program is based on widely recognized PA education models and current US standards of PA education. The AP program will produce skilled health care professionals to provide medical care within the Saudi Arabian military and civilian communities. The first class of twenty-seven (27) students  commenced in September 2010.
